Thousands of children are born with some kind of MDA every single day. I wish I could save the lives of all of them. It’s a terrible disease to have to deal with already. Almost 35 years ago I met someone that I had no idea would affect my life in the way he has. He had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I say, “had”, because unfortunately I just lost him almost a year ago. I think of him every day. He was courageous and full of life, no matter what.
I understand Michael is not with us by body anymore, but he is and will always be with us by his spirit, his love, his determination, and most of all his strength. I have never seen someone as strong as our Superman. He could do greater things and bigger than life things just by a smile and a thank you.
I didn’t say it then, but I’m saying it now. You have been my best friend for nearly 35 years. I remember you chasing me around the classroom when you could still walk some. We have had our ups and downs, mostly ups. There is no way to explain the emotion I feel when I think of you, always. Michael, you’ll always be my best friend. I love you and until we meet again in that special place I will always be thinking of you. This one’s for you, my dear friend. And may you be Dancing in Heaven.
In loving memory of Michael McGinnis
