Clean-up after Irma began almost as soon as the winds began to slow down in Lee Co. Downed trees and debris were a common site with some outages from falling trees as early as 8:30 yesterday morning. At the height of the storm nearly 14,000 were w/o power in Auburn and over 3,000 in Opelika. Statewide more than 23,000 still had no power at 11 pm. Crews worked thorough the night and this morning there are fewer than 500 outages in the Opelika area and crews are still working. News Talk WANI & the AU Network covered the storm & outages w/updates from Mayor Ham, Lee Co. sheriff Jay Jones, Auburn Campus safety and OPS until late afternoon when the storm began to lose strength.
