The Auburn High Baseball team is headed to the 2017 7A semifinals. The Tigers moved on after winning the series at McGill-Toolen, the former number one team in class 7A on Saturday.
On Friday afternoon, Auburn got off to a rocky start to the three game series as they were mercy ruled through five innings by a 10-0 score. The Tigers were shutout by McGill-Toolen ace Chandler Best as he held the Tigers to just three hits and no runs. However the Tigers fought back and won game two by 9-6 final score. The win was possible thanks to a five run fifth inning. Auburn Junior Brooks Fuller got credit for the win, as he turned in 5.2 innings allowing just one earned run and striking out five. Fuller also helped himself at the plate, as he went two for four in the game and drove in two RBI. Right Fielder Teddy Benda also had a nice game at the plate, as he drove in four RBI.
With the series tied 1-1, a tiebreaker game was played on Saturday to determine which team punched their ticket into the semifinals. The Tigers bats came alive in the tiebreaker game, as they exploded for 15 runs in a 15-4 victory. Junior Garrett Morris led the Tiger offense by going two for four with five RBI and three runs scored while Benda, Fuller, and Trey Woodham all recorded two RBI in the blowout victory. Auburn starter Ryan Lambert got credit for the win for going 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and recording four strikeouts.
The first game of the semifinal match up will be Friday against Theodore at Sam Welborn Field. Scott Bagwell and Riley Hubbard will have the call on ESPN 106.7 beginning at 5:00 followed directly after by game two. Should a tiebreaker game be necessary, it will be played on Saturday at 1:00 CT. Every game will also be streamed online at espnau.com and on the ESPN 106.7 app.
